About the Artist

I describe myself as a contemporary visual artist.

I am continually inspired by the human form and am particularly interested in flow and rhythm, light and shadow.  Many of my works have abstract bodies or body parts in varying forms of detail embedded in the landscape. In many, the form all but disappears or are so submerged that only suggestions remain, damaged, aged and deconstructed.

In applying porcelain thin layers of oil with the translucency of a watercolour side by side with assertive daubs of thick paint, I seek to create a tension between high and low points, dark and light spaces with which I aim to draw a viewer into the work. I experiment endlessly with paint, pigment and mediums and sometimes bravely flout the rules, in order to create the impression of age and decay that I seek. I am not interested in producing beautiful paintings but look to challenge and create a feeling of otherness.

I am inspired and influenced by artists including Hughie O’donoghue, Anthony Gormley and Cornelia Parker.
